POSSIBILITIES for MPhil and PhD PROJECTS:

I HAVE BEEN RETIRED SINCE 1 OCTOBER 2016 AND SO:

ADMINISTRATIVE ISSUES

Home/EU students: I could be a formal CO-supervisor, or provide advice informally.
There would need to be a formal lead supervisor employed by the School.

International students: I would NOT be able to be a formal supervisor or co-supervisor.
But I could informally provide advice.

PROJECT CONTENT

• I'm only prepared to be involved if there is a very close match with my interests,
  which are largely in the areas of

  • processing of FIGURATIVE ASPECTS OF COMMUNICATION (metaphor, metonymy, hyperbole, irony, ...) --
    but note that these don't have to be in linguistic utterances but could instead be in pictures, diagrams, gestures, music, ...

  • the nature of (SELF-)CONSCIOUSNESS,
    and how to achieve it in artefacts.

  However, feel free to contact me about other topics, just in case.

I am particularly drawn to interdisciplinary Cognitive Science projects,
notably those involving Psychology, Philosophy or Linguistics.
